What to know before volunteering with Body Positive
Can I volunteer if I am under 18?
At the moment, due to the nature of our work and locations we provide services, we cannot accept volunteers under the age of 18. If you are coming up to 18 and would like to discuss becoming part of Body Positive when please get in touch to start your journey early!
Can I use Body Positive as a full-time placement for counselling?
Body Positive is a small to medium size charity with an entirely voluntary counselling service. The service grows and shrinks rapidly with the needs of the people who come to us. This means we can provide counselling placements but we cannot guarantee a full-time placement. We ask that anyone considering taking a counselling placement with us initially consider this a secondary placement for experience or top-up hours.
Does Body Positive provide expenses?
Yes. Body Positive provides all reasonable out-of-pocket expenses including travel. Expenses, where they are incurred should be discussed with the volunteer manager beforehand. However, volunteering with Body Positive should not cost you a penny. We already greatly appreciate the time and experience you are willing to give us.
Will I be required to have a Disclosure and Barring Service check (formerly a CRB check)?
Yes. All volunteers are required to have the minimum of a standard disclosure and barring service check. Volunteers in roles where they are in positions such as counsellors, volunteers or trustees will be required to have a higher-level check in accordance with their volunteer role description. Body Positive provides opportunities in accordance with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (2018).
